I have designed many bathrooms, mostly using the clients’ own builder. It is important to have a good understanding of drainage regulations and potential plumbing issues. The choice of design, materials and price range can be daunting and the assistance of someone other than the plumber is invaluable, often paying for itself. ![]() |

The important thing with curtains and blinds is to treat each window individually and get the right solution for each one. Numerous factors dictate the choice of window coverings and materials: the decor of the room, the thickness of the curtains, privacy - some people require total blackout in bedrooms. Every window is different and ready-made curtains are often a poor solution offering neither warmth nor light filtering and they are rarely a good fit! Tailor-made Roman blinds are a fantastic choice for a modern look, and can be trimmed to fit in with your decor. They have the added advantage of working well on windows that have a radiator situated directly underneath, where full length curtains would obstruct the heat into the room. They can also be used in combination with curtains. ![]() |

Sometimes, you may reach that point where you don’t know how to get the best out of your house - or you may want to test your own ideas with a professional for feasibility. In either case, I can help you achieve a makeover which will make you feel better about staying in a house you own for longer than you intended, or alternatively, preparing it for sale or let. If you move into a new home, you want to put your mark on the property. You may have made compromises; you probably moved in with curtains that would ‘do for now’, and inherited someone else’s decorating choice which ‘looked OK and you felt that you could live with’. After a while you may have realised that the rooms just don’t work, a few things are broken or in the wrong place, the property feels drab, or doesn’t reflect your personality. You want to make changes, but just don’t know where to start. Sometimes it requires the experienced eye of an outsider to ask the right questions and to come up with a new ‘home plan’ so that you can really love your home. For some people all that is required is a little advice and a few practical suggestions. Most often, the response is ’ I would never have thought of doing that!’ If you require more than advice, I can carry out the work for you and take away some of the pain and disruption. In that event, the homeowner is always in control of the budget. I work with several tried and tested local decorators and other suppliers or with your preferred supplier. ![]() |

Embarking on a building project is always daunting. First, you need to select a builder. Then there is much home re-organisation to be done before works can commence – so that daily life can continue as normally as possible during that period. The builder will expect you to specify fittings and ensure that materials are on site, on time and according to specification. This can include door handles, light fittings, switches, flooring, tiles etc. There is also scheduling. You will need to coordinate the work of the builder and other specialist suppliers such as tllers and make sure that the materials needed for the specialist job are on site. If you do not stay ahead of the game then may find out, too late, that you are fitting whatever is currently on special offer at the DIY superstore, or incurring extra charges. My job is to smooth the process; to be your eyes and ears, to help maintain quality and avoid unnecessary spend in the project. I have handled numerous small building projects and can spot unsatisfactory work and bad practice before it is too late. I do not employ builders, that way my loyalty is to the client, but I will help you to choose a builder by drawing up a schedule so that it is possible to compare quotes – never an easy task. I then monitor the building process on your behalf, visiting the site as often as required. I will also keep you regularly updated on progress and present you in good time with purchasing options and samples. ![]() ![]() Before (above). |

I like to recycle and often ‘rescue’ nice pieces which, with a little bit of help from me, can once more take pride of place in the home and add that little extra individuality. Character does not have to be expensive and this way, you can do your bit to save the planet. Take a look at some of my recycling ideas. When we decide to change the look of our homes it is not always necessary to throw everything away and start again. ‘Retro’ is really in at the moment, and old pieces can be transformed to blend in with your new style as some of the examples in the portfolio show. Mixing old with new gives your home character; it is fun and cheap, and done well will rejuvenate and recycle something that would otherwise be consigned to the tip. ![]() |
